Paris will charter this week an aid plane to the populations affected by the floods in Pakistan, in particular survival equipment, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday.

"A special flight chartered by the Airbus Foundation will transport to Pakistan 83 very high capacity motor pumps, 200 family tents as well as survival, hygiene and protection equipment", according to a press release from the ministry.

“The plane will also transport experts from Civil Security training, in particular doctors and nurses,” he said.

A rescue bridge

Paris will also transport “by sea an emergency bridge (…) nearly 50 meters long, which can be quickly deployed in the disaster areas”.

Floods from monsoon rains have submerged a third of Pakistan, killing 1,191 people since June according to a report released Wednesday, devastating large swathes of agricultural land vital to the economy, and destroying or severely damaging more than a million homes.

The Quai d'Orsay "will provide financial support to several French NGOs and the Pakistani Red Crescent, which provide aid to populations affected by the floods", he specified.
