He is said to have been found on August 23 in a hammock outside his home, writes the BBC.

The man, who is suspected to be in his 60s, is said to have died of natural causes.

The indigenous group to which the man belonged came into contact with the rest of society during the 90s.

But very little is known about the last surviving man.

- He himself chose to keep his distance and did not want to have contact with the outside world.

So you don't really know anything about what language they might have spoken or what their culture looked like, says Tigran Feiler, SVT's correspondent in Latin America.

"Fighting for its survival"

In the Amazon, there are several ethnic groups that live without contact with the outside world.

But as the impact increases, it becomes more difficult for the groups to cope, says Feiler.

- The Amazon is now at a crossroads where scientists also warn that if logging continues at these levels, the rainforest as an ecosystem will eventually collapse.

It is a world that is fighting for its survival, says Feiler.
