• Immigration What is a CETI and why there has been a unanimous rejection in Algeciras of the Government project

  • Cádiz The Government proposes another immigrant center for Algeciras

The coasts of

Campo de Gibraltar

, mainly the beaches of

Algeciras

and

Tarifa

, continue to be the object of desire for

immigrants

.

Those who dream of a better future and who risk their lives, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, in extreme conditions.

The statistics, always cold, indicate that the arrival of immigrants to the autonomous community, illegally,

has decreased by

34%

until the month of August, which is about to end.

In the case of the Bay of Algeciras arch, the figure is 30%.

However, the reality is that the drama does not stop.

The Unified Association of Civil Guards (

AUGC

) has warned of the new method being used by

mafias

that traffic human beings from North Africa.

It consists of transferring the immigrant on a

jet ski

and throwing him into the sea when they are located by the Maritime Rescue personnel.

Luis Bueno Álvarez

is the organization secretary of AUGC and explains the situation to EL MUNDO.

"Only over the weekend we have located

more than 10

", and in the last few hours two minors also tried to reach the coast of Tarifa through said system.

To all this, we must add the usual

pateras

.

From Saturday to Monday

more than fifty

people, some women among them, have been located in various areas of the Strait.

"They throw the person into the sea and manage to escape since the first thing is human life and they know that we are going to rescue them," explains the agent.

routes are diverted

Bueno Álvarez admits that "the routes are being

diverted to the Canary Islands

and mainly to

Almería

" but makes it clear that the situation on the Cadiz coast "is not over".

That is why he requests an

"increase in the number

of agents".

The catalog of jobs is more than 30 years old and "we are in an area where, in addition to immigration, there are other problems such as drug trafficking, tobacco smuggling and the Gibraltar border," he explains.

For all these reasons, AUGC claims "the special singularity" of the Campo de Gibraltar.

The representative of the union organization explains what is happening this summer regarding the rescue of people in the waters of the Strait.

"The problem is that here we have become accustomed to

scandalous figures

and when we say that there are 10 or 15 migrants, we no

longer give it importance

", as it happens, he adds, with

hashish

.

"In Salamanca, to cite an example, they intercept a shipment of 50 kilos and it is an event. Here we have normalized it and, unless it is thousands of kilos, nothing seems to happen," he says.

The controversial CETI

In this scenario, the possible construction of a Temporary Stay Center for Immigrants (CETI) in Algeciras would be

"one more problem"

, points out Luis Bueno.

Recently, his organization attended a meeting with the mayor of the city,

José Ignacio Landaluce

, whom they supported in his rejection of this project.

"We do not go into political issues, but obviously we understand that it would not be the most suitable."

What happens in Ceuta and Melilla, both with regard to these centers and the arrival of immigrants by sea, are exposed by Bueno clearly.

"The problem that the colleagues from

Ceuta

encounter in the morning is ours in the afternoon", underlining that "each area of Spain will have its own things in terms of citizen security, but Cuenca or Talavera, for example, do not have the

main producer of hashish 15 kilometers away

, or boat problems".

It should be noted that, in addition to the complaints from the unified association, Landaluce, in his capacity as senator of the PP, has registered an initiative for the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration,

José Luis Escrivá

, to appear, so that he can offer explanations to the citizenship on the intentions of the Executive.

"There is no evidence that any other municipality in Spain has received a letter like the one sent to Algeciras, so we understand that their appearance is necessary and to avoid a problem for a city whose solidarity is more than demonstrated," he says.
