According to her, a possible halt in the production of fertilizers in Poland will be a logical step against the backdrop of a multiple increase in gas prices.

If in August 2020 the cost of gas was €8 per MWh, it is currently around €300, Solska explained.

“The cessation of nitrogen fertilizer production will hit farmers, but could also paralyze all food production in the country in a few days,” the article says.

Solska expressed concern that meat products, cheeses and drinks could disappear from the shelves of Polish stores in the coming days.

“If the government does not wake up, we are facing Armageddon,” she concluded.

Earlier, Helen Thompson, a professor of political economy at the University of Cambridge, said that the West faces an “energy retribution” in winter for the lack of Russian gas.

As the newspaper Wiadomości wrote, in Poland, against the backdrop of high gas prices, there is a threat of a food crisis in the near future.
