According to RIA Novosti with reference to the WHO statement, more than 5.9 thousand new cases of monkeypox were detected in the world over the past week, which is 21% less than in the previous seven days.

It is clarified that in total, as of August 22, WHO "has received reports of 41,664 laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox and 12 deaths in 96 countries and territories."

The largest number of infections since the beginning of the year were reported by the United States - 14,049 cases, Spain - 6119, Brazil - 3450 and Germany - 3295.

Earlier, the head of the Department of Virology of the Russian Medical Academy of Continuing Professional Education, Doctor of Medical Sciences Elena Malinnikova, in an interview with Nation News, commented on the situation with monkeypox.
