A leading British choir released a song of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, on Wednesday August 24, 2022, the country's national day.

Based on a speech by President Volodymyr Zelensky, and on a poem by Serhiy Zhadan, a key figure in the Ukrainian literary world, this composition marked the six months of the Russian invasion, which coincided with Ukrainian independence day.

The British choir sees its work as a "

musical expression of solidarity

", while Boris Johnson was in Kiev on Wednesday.

It is in the middle of the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in London that the award-winning British choir Sansara recorded this song of solidarity.

"A Quiet Night", "Tyhoyi Nochi" in Ukrainian, was composed by Natalia Tsupryk, one of the most prominent Ukrainian composers.

This powerful song takes up the words of the writer Serhiy Zhadan, in his poem "The story of snow".

It is we who sing in the calm of the night, when the city center is silent, burying the seeds of our sighs, in the breath of the black earth.

The second verse takes up, for its part, a speech by Volodymyr Zelensky dated last May.

The Ukrainian president insisted on the spirit of freedom of his people.

In addition to raising funds, this song, performed in English and Ukrainian, aims to bring together choirs from around the world, displaced by war, to sing together.

On social networks, some Internet users shared the video of the choir to celebrate the 31 years of independence of Ukraine celebrated this Wednesday, against a backdrop of entering the seventh month of this armed conflict.

To the people of Ukraine on your Independence Day, I want you to know this: For however long it takes, the United Kingdom will stand with you.
