Russia thought that the war could end soon, but the resistance of Ukraine was strong.

With Ukraine's recent counterattack, the war is now entering a new phase.

Breaking the expectation that it will not last even a week, Ukraine is confronting the Russian army over a 1,000-kilometer front.

However, one-fifth of its territory, an area larger than that of Korea, has been lost to the Russian army.

In the six months of fighting, it is estimated that 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 30,000 wounded.

The CIA estimated that 15,000 Russians were killed and 45,000 wounded in the war.

The combined military casualties of both sides reached 100,000, and civilian casualties were also serious.

28,500 Ukrainian civilians, including children, have lost their lives in the war, and more than 11 million people have crossed the border.

A quarter of the population fled their homes to escape the war.

This war also cast dark clouds on the global economy.

Just before the war, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted that the global economy would grow by 4.4% this year over the coronavirus pandemic, but it was downgraded by 1.2 percentage points in the aftermath of the war.

Energy prices have skyrocketed as the war continues as the world is suffering from a supply chain crisis due to China's zero-corona policy and other factors.

As Russia, the world's second-largest exporter of crude oil, went to war, the price of crude oil once exceeded $120. In Europe, where Russia's dependence on natural gas is high, Russia cut the supply of natural gas to one-fifth, and the price has risen to ten times the level a year ago. soared.

On the other hand, Russia is showing off its strength thanks to a surge in raw material prices, such as oil and gas, despite strong economic sanctions from the West.

However, there is also an assessment that the Russian economy is at risk of collapse within the next year without significant sanctions relief or outside help.

The Ukrainian military has recently started full-fledged long-range weapon systems, including the high-speed maneuvering rocket system provided by the U.S., and is striking the Russian rear ammunition depots and supply routes one after another.

The Washington Post predicted that the war had entered a new phase and that Ukraine's counterattack would determine the course of the war.
