The Emirate of Sharjah has taken a number of preventive measures to reduce school bus accidents in parallel with the start of the new school year 2022-2023, by approving requirements and specifications for buses, emphasizing the need to adhere to them, and carrying out field monitoring operations.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority stated that it has circulated the requirements and specifications of school buses to operators through licensing authorities, whether in the Emirate of Sharjah or other emirates, and it also issues the necessary circulars from time to time regarding these requirements through the "Tasresah" system intended for operators of passenger and school transport services. .

The authority explained to "Emirates Today" that it is also carrying out field control operations to verify the availability of these requirements and specifications through the authority's inspectors who have the status of a judicial officer, pointing out that some of these requirements are within the authority of the authority and others are within the competence of the Sharjah Private Education Authority.

It stated that it is in the process of activating training programs for school transport drivers to develop their level, allowing the possibility of avoiding mistakes to ensure the safety of students on buses.

While the Sharjah Civil Defense confirmed that most school bus accidents are caused by the neglect and ineffectiveness of safety devices, so the authority, in cooperation with Emirates Transport, has prepared more than 1,000 school buses, and ensured the availability and effectiveness of safety systems in them, which are: smoke detectors, thermal sensors and doors Emergency, first aid, parking alert panel and fire extinguisher. Supervisors and drivers were also trained on the correct behavior in emergency situations.

For its part, the Child Safety Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah organized an awareness workshop for school bus drivers and supervisors, which lasted for two days, entitled "Golden Rules for Riding a School Bus", as part of its efforts to enhance child safety from all risks.

On the first day, the workshop targeted 450 bus drivers and supervisors in Sharjah, and on the second day it targeted 450 drivers and supervisors in the central and eastern regions, with the aim of enhancing safety procedures, consolidating the culture of protecting children on the bus, and the importance of safety belts for young people.

Most school bus accidents are caused by negligence and ineffective safety devices.
