After a brutal police operation in a small town in the US state of Arkansas, investigations have been launched against three officers.

The state police said on Sunday evening (local time) that they had launched an investigation into the incident because of the use of force in the arrest of a 27-year-old.

According to official information, the three officers have been released from duty for the time being.

Video footage of the scene, filmed from a car parked nearby, had previously been posted on social media.

The video shows three police officers forcibly holding down and beating a man lying on the ground.

One of the officers hit the man's head several times with his fist, grabbed his head and rammed it to the ground, another kicked the man's body several times with his knee.

According to police, the arrest took place on Sunday morning (local time) in front of a shop in the small town of Mulberry, Arkansas.

After the incident, the 27-year-old was first taken to the hospital for examination and treatment and later arrested.

Among other things, he was charged with trespassing, assault and resisting arrest.

The television channel CNN reported that the 27-year-old was accused of previously threatening an employee at a nearby gas station.

The mayor of the small town, Gary Baxter, wrote in a statement that the video shocked him.

The result of the initiated investigation is taken very seriously.

Such an incident should not be repeated.

Republican Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson wrote on Twitter that he had spoken to state police about the incident.
