He is the face of the fight against the coronavirus in the United States.

Admired or hated, doctor Anthony Fauci announced on Monday that he will leave his post as director of the American National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the end of the year.

He was a recognized scientist, and that ended up making him a symbol.

that he will leave in December 2022 his functions as director of the American national institute of allergies and infectious diseases as well as his role as chief medical adviser to the White House.

At 81, he says he is still passionate about his work and full of energy, but he now wants to pass on his experience.

And experience, Anthony Fauci has it in spades.

Since 1984, it has had to deal with several epidemics.

From AIDS, which he himself admits he has trouble taking the measure of, to the Ebola and Zika viruses, to avian flu and finally to the Covid-19 pandemic which has made him a global public figure.

From Reagan to Biden

His duties have allowed him to advise seven presidents, from Ronald Reagan to Joe Biden.

It hasn't always been easy.

We remember his disappointed look when Donald Trump wondered in public whether bleach should be used to fight the coronavirus.

The right of the Republican Party does not forgive him and announces parliamentary investigations into his management of the pandemic if the majority switches to the midterm elections.

Joe Biden, prefers to pay tribute to him in a press release.

He recalls that one of his first decisions was to extend his duties as medical adviser.

And he claims that lives have been saved in the United States and around the world thanks to Anthony Fauci.
