The accident occurred at 23.40 on national highway 50 just north of Motala.
- It is unclear exactly how the accident occurred, but a total of eight people were involved in the collision, which is said to have occurred between a truck and two cars.
Two children were in the cars but they escaped unharmed, says Torbjörn Lindqvist, officer on duty at police region East.
All of the injured were awake and talking when they were taken by ambulance to hospital, but the police cannot comment on the state of the injuries.
- One of them was stuck for a while and was in a worse condition than the others, says Torbjörn Lindqvist.
The road was blocked off for just over two hours, but shortly after 02:00 it was possible to move on in both directions.
The police have drawn up a report of negligence in traffic and will investigate how the accident happened.
