The Islamic Resistance Movements (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad affirmed that the resistance is the irreversible strategic choice, after a meeting of the leaders of the two movements in Gaza City on Monday.

After the meeting - which took place between military, political and security leaders from the two sides - the two movements said in a joint statement that the resistance continues and in high and advanced coordination between the two movements and all factions.

In their statement, the two movements warned the Israeli occupation of any treachery towards the Palestinian people and its resistance, and stressed that their response would be firm, decisive and united.

The statement stressed that the joint operations room is a national achievement that includes all the resistance factions in a unified framework to manage the confrontation with the occupation, and everyone will work to strengthen its role and status until liberation and return.

The two movements called on the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank to stop pursuing resistance fighters, release political detainees, and stop security cooperation with the occupation, according to the statement.

They also affirmed their keenness to achieve Palestinian national unity, through the formation of a new Palestinian National Council representing the Palestinian people at home and abroad, as stated in the joint statement of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The meeting between the leaders of the resistance comes two weeks after the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Islamic Jihad movement in Gaza, amid praise for the efforts of Egypt and Qatar to stop the escalation.
