Many of you are still enjoying the last days of vacation.

If you are by the sea, whether you like boating or long swims, the National Sea Rescue Society has a message for you.

Indeed, the SNSM intervenes more and more often after alerts that could be avoided.

If the return to school is already on everyone's mind, some still take advantage of the holidays and the sea. But beware of imprudence!

In Normandy, the National Sea Rescue Society intervenes more and more often after alerts that could be avoided, with more caution.

Incidents that are valid for all coastal regions of France.

“For example, in the summer, someone goes swimming and leaves their belongings on the beach,” explains Jean-Marie Choisy, the departmental delegate of the SNSM de la Manche.

"Then he goes after to do something else, he meets friends or whatever."

"After a while, the people who are next to him no longer see the person, and call the Regional Operational Rescue Center which triggers the alert to find this person", continues the SNSM delegate.

"Typically, it happened again last week", he assures the microphone of Europe 1.

Always warn someone ashore

Another recurring scenario according to Jean-Marie Choisy, "a lot of interventions, engine failure or fuel failure": "The person went to sea, and did not check that he had enough fuel to carry out his ride at sea."

"There are a lot of people who think that the sea is easy," he laments.

"You can rent a sailboat without having a license, for example. So we see a lot of people going on the water as they would go for a ride in the countryside."

The lifeguard gives one last piece of advice to avoid these situations: "When you practice a nautical activity, [it is necessary] to inform a person on the ground of the time of return."

And above all, it is necessary "to stick to this hour of return".
