Before the premiere of the Wilderness Road this year, reindeer herders were worried that tourists would disturb the reindeer's calving.

Tourists do not follow rules of order

Since a year ago, there has been a ban on stopping and parking on part of the route to reduce the risk of disruption.

Despite fewer visitors, Vilhelmina's southern Sami village is still critical of tourists not following the rules of order set along the road.

- It feels like there have been fewer tourists.

But there are still people who can't behave.

We have seen loose dogs and many who ignored the stop and stay ban, says Mathias Blind, chairman Vilhelmina södra Samiby.

Chairman: "Let nature take its course"

What would a dream scenario be for you?

- One vision is that nature itself gets to decide when the road will open.

You don't have to plow up a road to create an attraction, let nature take its course, says Mathias Blind.

Few fines

So far, the police have issued two parking fines to people who stopped at the stop sign.

According to Magnus Abramsson, police in Vilhelmina, it has been calm on the road, but that it is difficult to maintain surveillance around the clock.

- We had staff up there when the road opened, but during the summer there are fewer of us working.

If you notice any problems, you must call in, says Magnus Abramsson, police officer in Vilhelmina.
