The UAE has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, which resulted in deaths and injuries of innocent people.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts, and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism, which aim to destabilize security and stability, and are inconsistent with religious and humanitarian values and principles.

The Ministry also expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims as a result of this heinous crime, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.

In Somalia, security officials announced yesterday that 16 people were killed in an attack by Al-Shabab militants on a hotel in the capital Mogadishu, and Bloomberg News Agency said that 40 other people were wounded in the terrorist attack.

The police said that the perpetrators of the attack detonated two explosive devices outside the "Hyatt" Hotel, then stormed the building and opened fire, according to the New Somalia news website and Radio Shabelle.

A special police unit rescued dozens of inmates and staff.

And the security forces neutralized the terrorists who were trapped inside one of the hotel rooms.

Witnesses reported that the sounds of explosions resounded during the night when government forces tried to wrest control of the hotel from the gunmen.

They added that the clashes destroyed large parts of the hotel.

Al-Shabab, which is linked to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a translation by the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks extremist groups' data.

This is the first attack of this scale launched by Al-Shabab in the capital Mogadishu since the formation of the new Somali government, which has made liberating the country from Al-Shabaab fighters at the forefront of its priorities.

The Hyatt is a favorite destination for members of parliament and other government officials.

But there was no information on whether any of them were in the hotel.

On August 14, the United States killed 13 al-Shabab militants in an air strike near Tidan, Somalia, according to a statement issued by the US Africa Command last Wednesday.

This was the third raid since last June.

For his part, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Assumi, condemned the terrorist attack on the hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Al-Soumi affirmed in a press statement yesterday, "The Arab Parliament's full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia in its war against terrorism and its solidarity with it in all the measures it takes to protect its territory and consolidate security and stability."

He also called on the international community to "provide all necessary support to the Government of Somalia and the Somali security forces in their fight against the terrorist Al-Shabaab movement."

Yesterday, Egypt expressed its condemnation of the terrorist attack that targeted the Hyatt Hotel in the Somali capital.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt affirmed its "full solidarity with brotherly Somalia in this painful affliction," noting its "total rejection of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism."
