It is when it happens that it is important to act.

This is the reasoning of Robert Kostro, historian and director of the Polish Historical Museum.

He is already planning how the Ukrainian war will be depicted for posterity by collecting objects with connections to the war.

- It is now that we have to collect these items.

Otherwise they might be thrown away, says Robert Kostro.

Private individuals in Poland are invited to submit items related to the war, and so far the museum has collected items such as placards, stamps and volunteer vests.

The idea is that this will be displayed at Poland's new history museum, which is under construction, and is expected to be ready in 2023. But it will only be in 15-20 years, when the war will hopefully have passed into history.

- We hope that the memory of what has been causes future generations to act smarter than we have done, says Robert Kostro.
