Princess Mette-Marit infected with COVID-19

The Norwegian royal family announced Saturday that Princess Mette-Marit, 49, wife of Crown Prince Haakon, has contracted COVID-19.

"The princess is experiencing normal symptoms and is being supervised by her doctor," the royal family said in a statement.

Her husband, Prince Haakon, 49, contracted COVID-19 in June.

In 2018, the Norwegian royal family announced that Princess Mette-Marit suffers from pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic disease that can lead to respiratory failure.

The family confirmed at the time that the disease could lead to "limiting the exercise of its official duties."
