• Urbanism The 'golden apple' of Madrid: the last unbuilt plot in the exclusive neighborhood of El Viso

A succession of chalets surrounded by extensive plots and protected by dense fences and security cameras along two and a half kilometers.

Except for the presence of the Thai Embassy and a private school -the European School-, this is the predominant picture of

the most expensive street in the Community of Madrid

to buy a home.

It is called

Camino del Sur

, it is in the exclusive neighborhood of

La Moraleja

, in the municipality of

Alcobendas

, and, according to the ranking prepared by the

Idealista.com

real estate portal , acquiring the status of owner in it costs an average of

8,435,000 euros

.

On his list of illustrious neighbors is the footballer

David Beckham

, who lived there during his four-year stay in Spain, as all the residents of the area consulted by EL MUNDO assure.

Leaving the insipidity of its name aside, you can't park on this artery located

20 minutes by car from Puerta del Sol

-although you might find a yellow Porsche at the door of a farm- and it has such little traffic that You can even accurately hear the singing of the birds that nest in the leafy trees that dot the entire street layout.

The only thing that disturbed the idyllic atmosphere this Thursday were the pickaxes of the Canal de Isabel II operators who were renewing the pipes in a section of its route.

But what is so special about this street that others in the area do not have to be the most expensive?

In the Gilmar real estate office in La Moraleja they do not have an answer to this question because, as they point out, there are two other roads in the vicinity,

Conde de los Gaitanes

and

Marquesa Viuda de Aldama

, in which, according to what they specify, there is "the same types of dwellings.

"The same is because of the views it has of Madrid, but they do not seem very different from those of these other two streets, for which customers do ask specifically, which does not happen with Camino del Sur", explains one of the commercials of the company, which confirms that indeed prices there have been higher for years.

"It's funny,"

she adds.

Carlos, a resident of La Moraleja for decades, has his own theory.

"It must be due to the law of supply and demand: as there are few chalets for sale and they are between 800 and 1,000 meters, plus another 10,000 of land, obviously the price goes up," he reflects as he walks his grandchildren with his wife Lizanne, who helps him complete the list of Real Madrid footballers who, apart from Beckham, live or have lived in this area:

Marcelo

,

Sergio Ramos

,

Lucas Vázquez

and

Luis Figo

, at least.

Plot for sale on the same road.BDMUNDO

In Camino del Sur there is a single

For Sale

sign and it corresponds to a vast plot of land that is marketed by the company De Salas Consultora Inmobiliaria, with whom this newspaper has tried to contact without success.

This company specializing in luxury homes advertises high-end chalets on its website -although without specifying the exact street- for

up to 16,900,000 euros

, with a surface area of 2,800 square meters and a plot of 10,300, eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.

At the entrance to the least affordable street in Madrid there is a large sign that warns that it is

forbidden to circulate on it on school days

between 8:30 and 9:30 and from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the entry and exit of students. students of the European Lyceum.

Hiram, an employee at a nearby gas station, suspects that perhaps the luster of this private bilingual school is what drives up the price of neighboring homes.

The real estate sources consulted by this newspaper maintain instead that the presence of an educational center with its bustle of parents who take and pick up children in any case "hinders" the expectations of revaluation.

They do point out the presence of the Thai Embassy as a plus, which, like other diplomatic delegations based in La Moraleja -such as that of the United Arab Emirates and Qatar-

"increases the feeling of security"

.

The signs that warn of the presence of alarms follow each other along this prohibitive road for most pockets, located just over a kilometer from the A-1, where, in line with the rest of the neighborhood, it can also be seen above the walls that protect the houses an exuberant vegetation of pines and evergreen trees.

And attention for visitors: several signs warn of the danger of squirrels, which must be for a reason.

According to the ranking of the most expensive streets, in Spain only the

Coto Zagaleta Urbanization

, in the Malaga municipality of

Benahavís

(9,956,525 euros on average), and

Sant Carles Street

, in the Majorcan town of

Calviá

( 9,450,000 euros).

Among the 10 that require the greatest economic muscle from the buyer, there are two more from Madrid: another in La Moraleja, the aforementioned

Marquesa Viuda de Aldama

(6,926,923 euros) and a third on the

Paseo de los Lagos

, in

La Finca de Pozuelo de Alarcon

(6,226,159 euros).

Eight years after leaving Real Madrid, in 2015, Beckham sold the Camino del Sur mansion where he lived during his time at the white club for around 5.8 million euros, according to

Idealista.com

.

After the renovation he did when he moved in with his wife, Victoria, in what is now the most exclusive street in the region, the soccer player's mansion, on a plot of more than 8,000 square metres, had five bedrooms, an indoor pool and another outside, tennis court and a small soccer field.
