Putin and Macron support inspection of Ukrainian nuclear plant

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have announced their support for international experts to inspect the Russian-controlled Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.

The Kremlin said on Friday that the two presidents stressed in a phone call that representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency should assess the situation at the site.

The Kremlin added that Russia had confirmed that it would provide the necessary assistance to the mission.

The Elysee also said Macron "stressed his concern about the risks posed by the situation at the Zaporizhia power plant to nuclear peace and security".
