Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority announced that it has conducted inspection and control campaigns on schools, school bus drivers and supervisors as part of its preparations to receive the new academic year 2022-2023, by raising the readiness of schools and buses to receive male and female students, and providing safe school transportation services.
She stressed the emphasis on ensuring the provision of safe, reliable and smart transportation services by applying the highest safety standards in buses, as the internal standards for the bus include the presence of control cameras and a first aid box, in addition to the bus’s cleanliness, safety and quality of seats, the presence of fire extinguishers, screens to see cameras, and a triangle with reflective colors to warn in cases Emergency.
It also confirmed the inspection of the external standards of buses to ensure that they are yellow, and that the driver’s left side is equipped with an electronic “stop” arm, the necessity of making warning lights and traffic signals for the bus, the presence of the warning triangle and the camera sticker, writing the name of the school and company, if any, and a sentence “ A school bus” on both sides, in Arabic and English, in addition to the presence of a rear camera and side mirrors.
She indicated that the opening and closing of the doors should be controlled by the driver only, preferably electronically, with no bars installed on the windows, whether from inside or outside the bus, adding that she was keen to rehabilitate school bus drivers and supervisors, and subject them to training programs. And intensive awareness-raising through the smart “Compass” application, which allows them to attend training programs from anywhere, at any time, with the aim of enhancing their efficiency and raising their awareness of the best global practices applied in this field.
The authority stated that it implements several sudden inspection visits to the operators of the school transport activity, where the security and safety team in the authority, in cooperation and coordination with the Transport Activities Control Department, ensures the extent of the operators' commitment to applying safety requirements and standards to ensure the provision of school transport services in accordance with the highest standards of safety and comfort for students.
The Customer Happiness Department of the Authority is also keen to facilitate the procedures for issuing and renewing permits for drivers and supervisors, through the Authority's electronic platform, as it allows them to complete their transactions without the need to come to the "Customer Happiness Center".
The department has carried out a number of awareness visits to schools in the emirate to explain the responsibilities and tasks of drivers and supervisors.
