free season ticket for Renfe users

.

Recurring commuters on

Cercanías

,

Rodalies

and

Media Distancia Convencional

will be able to purchase the new free season ticket starting

on August 24

, with which they will be able to travel on these trains

from September 1 until the end of the year

.

The Government of Pedro Sánchez announced a 100% discount on

travel passes for Cercanías, Rodalies and medium-distance trains

operated by Renfe, so they will become

free from September 1 to December 31,

2022. On

the other hand, for

Avant

, medium-distance trains that run on high-speed rail, the

discount is 50%

.

The Executive justifies that this measure seeks to alleviate the impact of the rise in energy prices.

Since last August 8, users can register on the Renfe website and in the

Renfe

and

Renfe Cercanías

applications to prepare the procedures for August 24.

Users who normally use

Renfe

tools will already have this step done, since it is about registering the data.

Minimum trips

The free subscriptions have limited the help to users who make trips regularly, imposing a deposit that will only be returned if a

minimum of 16 trips

have been made in the four months in which the subscriptions will be valid.

Renfe reminds that the subscription must be validated before the start of each trip.

The subscription title is personal and non-transferable and for a specific route.

Deposits of 10 and 20 euros

The user must pay a deposit of

10 euros for the subscriptions of the Cercanías and Rodalies trains and 20 euros for those of the Media Distancia trains

.

If the deposit is paid by bank card, the amount will be automatically refunded at the end of the four months of validity of the subscription, provided that you have made the minimum of 16 trips.

If the user has obtained the payment in cash, a face-to-face request will be necessary for the return.

In case of not complying with the stipulated minimum number of trips, the deposit will be considered compensation and will not be returned to the user.

In the event that the deposit is deposited in cash, the return of the deposit must be requested at the ticket offices, customer service offices or at any other after-sales service authorized for this purpose by Renfe.

To issue the subscription, the user's ID and/or mobile phone will be recorded.

A large family discount may be applied to the amount of the deposit if this condition is met.

How to request the free Renfe season ticket

The user must be

previously registered

(since August 8) on the Renfe

website

or on the

Renfe and Renfe Cercanías

mobile applications .

Although it can also be processed at

self-service machines

and

ticket offices at the station

, the rail transport company recommends doing it online in the following way:

  • Go to Renfe.com (and click on "Renfe Passes") or download the

    Renfe Cercanías application

    from Google Play or the App Store.

  • Select your commuter hub.

  • Pull down the menu and select the

    "Buy Tickets" option.

  • Click on the "Buy" option and select your usual origin/destination station.

  • Under

    "Select a fare"

    , choose the new

    "Free Frequent Flyer Pass"

    .

  • Enter the data to

    register

    .

    If you already have a user in the application, continue with the purchase process.

  • The

    generated QR

    will be saved in the application's

    wallet

    that you can find in the "Buy tickets" -

    "My tickets" menu.

    When you arrive at the station you must

    validate the QR

    at the following validation points, depending on the characteristics of each center:


    - In the centers of

    Madrid, Malaga, Murcia/Alicante and Zaragoza

    , where there are turnstiles enabled for reading, you can access directly with the QR.


    - In the centers of

    Cádiz, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Seville, Valencia and Rodalies Cataluña

    , you must obtain a physical subscription, free of charge, at the self-service machines, by entering the QR code or the 7-digit code generated in the app.

  • If you have a

    Renfe & Tú card

    , you can also go to your usual points of purchase (self-service machines and station ticket offices) and load the new season ticket onto it.

    Always validate your trips before they start.

  • The

    Width Metric, Asturias and Santander hubs

    are not enabled to purchase the pass through the app, so the physical pass must be purchased at the vending machines or at the station ticket offices.

    In the case of the

    Conventional Medium Distance

    , the stations of origin and destination to which they will travel during these four months will be selected and then each trip that they wish to make will be formalized in any of the usual means, although digital is recommended.

    If a minimum of 16 trips is made, the deposit will be returned.

    Discounts on AVE and Long Distance

    In the case of the

    Avant

    , the current season tickets will be marketed at a

    50% discount

    .

    Likewise, a new subscription has been created for certain

    AVE

    and

    Long Distance

    services with a

    50% discount

    .

    Madrid-Palencia, Madrid-Zamora, León-Valladolid, León-Palencia, Burgos-Madrid, Burgos-Valladolid, Ourense-Zamora, Palencia-Valladolid, Huesca-Zaragoza, León-Segovia, Segovia-Zamora, Palencia-Segovia, Medina del Campo-Zamora are the relationships for which this new ticket can be purchased.

    What if I already have subscription?

    During the marketing period of the new recurring subscription,

    the sale of the rest of the usual subscriptions will be suspended

    , although those that have been purchased previously will maintain the validity with which they were purchased and may be used.
