Forest fires surround a train in Spain, injuring several passengers

Ten passengers were injured, three of them seriously, while trying to escape from a train stuck in forest fires in the city of Valencia, eastern Spain.

The forest fires were fanned by strong winds in the area near the town of Baijis, prompting some firefighters to flee, fearing for their lives.

The passengers were on a train from Valencia to the northern province of Zaragoza when the fires brought the train to a standstill.

The train driver asked the passengers not to get out of the cars, but some panicked.

While preparing to turn back the train, which left Valencia last Tuesday afternoon with 48 passengers on board, some passengers broke windows in an attempt to escape from the train as the flames approached the cars.
