In the rain, Ingebrigtsen, who has also been Olympic champion in the 1,500m since last summer, took the early lead in the race and did not let go to win in 3 min 32 sec 76, far ahead of the Briton Jake Heyward (3:34.44) and Spaniard Mario Garcia (3:34.88).

The young Norwegian half-founder, who will turn 22 in a month, could not however take his revenge on the recent World Championships, in July in Eugene (United States).

Briton Jake Wightman, who had surprised him in the world final in Oregon, has indeed chosen to line up for the lower distance, the 800 m, in Bavaria.

"The rain reminded me of home," Ingebrigtsen said after his coronation.

The Norwegian athlete has already built up a considerable track record: crowned Olympic champion in the 1,500m last summer in Tokyo, became world champion in the 5,000m and vice-world champion in the 1,500m in July, he is now quadruple champion from Europe.

Frenchman Azeddine Habz finished tenth (3:40.92).
