A law to prevent climate change is enforced in the United States.

The key content is that it will give you a benefit if you ride an eco-friendly electric car.

Although it is a law in another country, it seems that the repercussions are likely to affect Korean companies as well.

Correspondent Yunsu Kim of Washington covered the report.

The Inflation Reduction Act signed by President Biden is all 910 trillion won and includes measures to reduce the 394 trillion won fiscal deficit through taxation on the rich and large corporations, hence the name 'Inflation Reduction Act'.

[President Biden/USA: Wealth and large corporations will respond to inflation by reducing fiscal deficits by paying reasonable taxes.]

However, the key is responding to climate change, which is the Biden administration's priority.

492 trillion won, more than half of the total budget, will be invested in expanding the supply of electric vehicles.

5 million won for a used car and 10 million won for a new car.

The deduction was limited to vehicles manufactured or assembled in the United States.

Chinese-made batteries as well as electric vehicles equipped with batteries containing Chinese minerals were excluded from the deduction.

A blow is inevitable for domestic electric vehicle manufacturers right now.

This is because domestic electric vehicle makers such as Hyundai and Kia manufacture and export all electric vehicles in Korea.

The U.S. Department of Energy said 21 types of electric vehicles are tax deductible, but Korean-made vehicles are not included.

[Biden/President of the United States: All products that receive tax benefits are American products.

The Inflation Reduction Act will create tens of thousands of high-paying green manufacturing jobs through tax credits.]

However, even within the United States, more than 70% of electric vehicles currently produced in the United States do not meet the new law's benefit criteria. It is pointed out that adjustment of detailed standards is necessary.
