Fires broke out in the forest areas of western Tunisia today, Wednesday, in light of a significant rise in temperatures.

The fires swept through forests in the neighboring states of Beja and Jendouba, in the regions of Tabarka, Ain Draham and Fernana, and in forests on the border with Algeria.

Waves of hot winds caused the fires to expand.

Firefighting teams are struggling to control the fires with the help of military aircraft to prevent them from spreading to residential areas.

The Director of Civil Protection in Beja, Moez bin Khalifa, said that six fires broke out in the area, while 5 families of forest dwellers in Jabal Al-Masid were evacuated from the delegation of Nafza, noting that a fire had caught one of these houses after the evacuation.

Another fire broke out this morning in Jebel El Sars in Kairouan, central Tunisia, and a fire broke out in a mountain in the Hawariya region, in the northeast of the country.

Tunisia has witnessed a significant rise in temperatures since Tuesday, reaching a maximum of 47 degrees, which led to frequent power cuts due to the doubling of energy demand.

The heat wave is expected to continue until Friday.
