An 88-year-old grandmother living in the famous Silvertown, South Carolina, USA, died after being bitten by a crocodile in a pond inside the facility, CNN reported on the 16th local time.



The old man, named Nancy Becker, is a resident of Sun City Hilton Head, a seniors-only town in Bupert County, South Carolina, who appears to have drowned in a pond while grooming, CNN reported.



According to CNN, around 11:15 am on the 15th, a report was received that a crocodile was next to a woman's body in an artificial pond here.



Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the accident.



Covering 5,725 acres (about 23 square kilometers, about 7 million pyeong), this Silver Town is home to over 16,000 senior citizens.



The crocodile that caused the accident was said to have been euthanized.



There are an estimated 5 million alligators in 10 southeastern states in the United States, and deaths from alligator attacks are extremely rare.
