The South Korean military announced that it will hold regular joint military exercises with the US military from August 22, assuming an emergency on the Korean Peninsula.

In the exercise, a full-fledged outdoor maneuver training that actually deploys large-scale troops is scheduled to resume for the first time in about four years, and strong opposition from North Korea is expected.

According to the South Korean military announced on the 16th, regular joint military exercises with the US military will be held from August 22nd to September 1st.

As part of the exercise, which assumes an emergency on the Korean Peninsula, full-scale field maneuver training, in which a large-scale military force is actually deployed, is scheduled to resume for the first time in about four years.

Under the reformist Moon Jae-in administration, which emphasized dialogue with North Korea, joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea were canceled in light of the first-ever U.S.-North Korea summit meeting in 2018. There is a history that the scale has been reduced due to the influence of Corona.

In response, the conservative Yun Seong-yeol administration, which was inaugurated in May this year, indicated that it would expand exercises again from the standpoint of strengthening deterrence based on the US-South Korea alliance.

At a press conference on the 16th, South Korea's Ministry of Defense emphasized, "By normalizing joint military exercises, we will rebuild the US-South Korea alliance and strengthen our defense posture."

According to South Korean media, the US and South Korean forces have been conducting preliminary training since the 16th, and North Korea, which has repeatedly requested the cancellation of the exercise, is expected to strongly oppose.
