Amid rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait, Director General Akiba of the National Security Agency is making arrangements to meet with Politburo member Yang Jiechi, who oversees China's foreign affairs.

It is a policy to reiterate the importance of peace and stability in the region to China, which has conducted military exercises around Taiwan, and to encourage self-restraint.

Tensions are rising in the Taiwan Strait, with China conducting large-scale military exercises in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. It is also affecting Japan-China relations, such as falling inward.



Under these circumstances, Director General Akiba of the National Security Agency is making arrangements to meet with Politburo member Yang Jiechi*, who oversees foreign affairs, in China soon.



Regarding the relationship with China, Prime Minister Kishida said at a recent press conference, "It is important to maintain firm communication at times like now." It is a policy to reiterate the importance of and encourage self-restraint.



In addition, given that next month marks the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China, the two sides are expected to exchange views on how to build constructive and stable Japan-China relations.
