A case of TBE discovered in the county - believed to have been infected in Timrå municipality

The last time a person is said to have been infected in the county was twelve years ago in Örnsköldsvik.

The new case, where the investigation results indicate that the infection was transmitted in Timrå municipality, is only the county's second known TBE case with domestic infection ever.

- This does not mean that we are now changing any recommendations.

If you are only staying in nature in Västernorrland, we do not have a general recommendation on vaccination, says Maria Tempé, assistant infectious disease physician in a statement.

There have also previously been cases in the county where people were affected by TBE, but were then infected elsewhere.
