The season is coming to an end for Jörgen Emanuelsson.

Starting from Henån on Orust, he has arranged courses along the entire Bohus coast for people who want to get a driver's license for jet skis after this year's law change.

Of the 12,271 driver's licenses issued in Västra Götaland and Halland this year, 1,130 people have received it after taking a course, according to the Swedish Transport Agency.

The majority have used the temporary transitional provisions.

Anyone who has other authorizations on the lake, issued before May 1, 2022, can apply directly for a watercraft driver's license.

The police: Want to see more knowledge on the lake

The purpose of the law was to put an end to "bus riding", such as when people drive too close to beaches or too fast.

According to the Maritime Police, this type of behavior has occurred to some extent in Gothenburg's archipelago.

But Frans Dahlén, head of the maritime police region West, emphasizes that they have not experienced any extensive problems along the Bohu coast.

Since May, they have checked 80 jet skis - one was driving without a driver's license.

What Frans Dahlén hopes the change in the law can lead to is that more types of driver's license are introduced.

- We believe that it is very important to have all kinds of nautical knowledge.
