An officer from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service announced Monday that the fire that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday in the Pyrénées-Orientales was brought under control by the 400 firefighters mobilized.

In a few hours, the fire covered 110 hectares of vegetation, near Caudiès-de-Fenoullèdes, but the dispatch of five water bomber planes made it possible to prevent the fire from spreading further.
"The fire has been fixed, but there is still a lot of work on the spot. A priori, there is no longer any risk of propagation, we hope to put it out (Monday) evening or (Tuesday)", he said. AFP Captain Brice Lafontaine, of SDIS-66.

The fire broke out overnight
The fire broke out on Monday around 3 a.m. near Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes and did not threaten any inhabited area.
On the ground, 420 firefighters were mobilized and trying to prevent the fire from spreading to a wind farm, Captain Pierre Clottes, of the Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Pyrénées-Orientales, told AFP.
The RD 117 departmental road linking Perpignan to Quillan (Aude) had been cut off from traffic at Caudiès-de-Fenouilèdes, according to the same source.
The other big fire in Occitania, which ravaged 1,360 hectares in Aveyron, was "fixed" by firefighters, the prefecture announced in a press release on Monday.
