Last year, just under 17 percent chose to get a driver's license for an automatic car in Västerbotten County.

This year, that percentage has increased to 25.6 percent, just between January and July 2022. That is an increase of 8.8 percentage points in the county.

Driving school teacher Jasna Nareus believes that the reason for the increased interest is that it is easier and faster to get an automatic driver's license because you don't have to learn to shift gears.

- The only tricky thing is if a workplace requires you to have a manual driver's license, but otherwise we only see advantages, says Jasna Nareus.

Increased interest throughout the country

Driving license holders in both Norrbotten and Västernorrland counties who are interested in automatic driving licenses have increased by 4 percentage points from last year.

In Jämtland County, that group has increased by as much as 7 percentage points.

It is a trend that applies to the entire country.

In the country, last year, just over 30 percent chose automatic machines, and this year it has increased by 5.6 percentage points.
