He spent a few hours in Bamako before flying off this afternoon to N'Djamena: Macky Sall, President of Senegal and Chairman-in-Office of the African Union, met in particular with the Malian transitional President, the Colonel Assimi Goita.

One-on-one, extended work meeting, lunch… and on the menu for discussions: the transition and the fate of the Ivorian soldiers detained in Bamako for more than a month.

The Malian transitional president communicated in a very lapidary way at the end of Macky Sall's visit.

In a tweet, Colonel Assimi Goïta evokes discussions that focused on "the

smooth running of the transition and the support of the African Union

" and on the strengthening of cooperation between Mali and Senegal.

This morning I received my Senegalese counterpart SEM @MackySall, on a work and friendship visit to Bamako.

Last year, 11 agreements in very diverse fields - transport, trade, health... - had been concluded: from a Malian diplomatic source, the two heads of state were to follow up on them.

Above all, Macky Sall and Assimi Goita spoke about the fate of the 49 Ivorian soldiers arrested in Bamako and

officially charged on Friday August 12

for, in particular, “

conspiracy against the government” and “

undermining state security.

The Malian authorities accuse them of being "

mercenaries

", Abidjan assures that they are regular army soldiers who came to support the UN mission in the country, the Minusma.

What the United Nations confirmed before backtracking, apparently due to administrative malfunctions.

Several attempts at mediation - that of Togo in particular - are underway.

They have so far failed to find a way out.

The President of the African Union will therefore, in turn, try to find ways of solving the crisis negotiated, amicably, between Mali and Côte d'Ivoire.

“

I noted Mali's availability for dialogue

, declared Macky Sall leaving the Koulouba palace,

we are going to continue with Côte d'Ivoire

.

Macky Sall described his exchanges with the transitional Malian president as "

frank

", without going into the details of the requests and the blocking points.
