For women and girls, life has become radically different in one year.

Girls are not allowed to go to school, women are not allowed to work in the public sector.

At the same time, international aid has been stopped, many live in poor conditions on the verge of starvation.

SVT's team has met girls who describe what their everyday life looks like now, many feel hopeless that their future plans have been crushed when the schools closed their doors to them.

- You see women who want to work and who want a future - suddenly they can't do it, you see the hopelessness of these people, says Salim Alsabbagh.

Despite the harsh conditions that prevail, women have demonstrated for their rights in Kabul.

- There is still hope in Afghanistan, young girls who refuse to be silenced, says Samir Abu Eid.
