Former US President Donald Trump accused the FBI of stealing his passports during a search of his property in Mar-a-Lago last week.

On Monday, Trump wrote on the social network "Truth Social" that he co-founded, "Wow! In the raid the FBI launched on Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three passports, they expired" one of them."

"This is an attack on a political opponent on a scale never seen before in our country. It's the third world!" Trump added.

It remains unclear why Trump spoke about this only now, a week after his Florida home was searched.

The raid followed suspicions that Trump may have violated the Espionage Act and other laws by taking classified documents from the White House when he left office in January 2021.

A Florida court published the list of seized items as well as the search warrant last Friday at the request of Attorney General and US Attorney Merrick Garland.
