A man committed suicide this Sunday after crashing his vehicle into a barricade near the Capitol building,

seat of Congress

, in Washington, and after having fired several times into the air without leaving anyone injured.

"Shortly after 4 in the morning a man has crashed his car into a barricade located on East Capitol Street", that is, just behind the American Supreme Court and two steps from the Capitol, according to a statement from the Capitol police, issued Sunday morning.

The car caught fire and the man managed to get out of it, before shooting into the air.

Hearing the shots, the police headed there.

The man then turned the gun on him and shot himself, killing himself.

No one else has been injured,"

the statement said.

A background check will be carried out

on

the man in question, who has not been identified.

It didn't seem like he was aiming to attack members of Congress who, moreover, are currently on vacation.

The Capitol is under heavy security following the January 6, 2021, assault organized by supporters of Donald Trump who refused to accept the presidential election of Joe Biden.
