The politician called the incident with Rushdie an attack on freedoms and values.

Earlier it was reported that an unknown person attacked British writer Salman Rushdie in New York.

Rushdie was stabbed in the neck and airlifted to a local hospital.

The attacker has already been arrested.

According to The New York Times, the writer is on a ventilator after the attack.
