According to TASS with reference to Yulia Maryukhno, a spokesman for the city council, the decision to demolish the monument was made by the executive committee of the city council.

Maryukhno also said that they plan to store the bust on the territory of the utility company.

Earlier, a member of the historical and toponymic commission of the city council, Alexander Babich, announced the dismantling of monuments to the Heroes of the Soviet Union and Heroes of Socialist Labor on Theater Square in Odessa.

In April, a monument to Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov was dismantled in Kharkov.
