The decisions apply, among other things, to Bureälven, Kågeälven and in Burträsk, which normally sell fishing licenses for crayfish fishing to the public.

Despite the normally strict rules around crayfish fishing, in both Kågeälven and Bureå, they have thus chosen not to sell any fishing licenses this year.

- We are very afraid of the stock and are taking additional precautions, says Thomas Johansson, secretary for the Kågeälven's lower fisheries management area.

Disappointed fishermen

In Bureälven, 25 crayfish fishing licenses are normally sold per year and people come from all over Sweden to fish in Bureå.

- Those who would have fished are sad that there will be no fishing this year.

We even had a girl who contacted us from Gothenburg who had planned to come up and fish for crayfish, says Lennart Wiklund, Bureå community association, which is responsible for crayfish fishing in Bureälven.

The municipality does not advise against fishing

Despite the crayfish plague in the Skellefteälven, the municipality does not advise against crayfish fishing in healthy waters.

- From the municipality's side, we do not discourage associations from conducting crayfish fishing as long as it can be conducted in a safe manner.

Where you don't risk getting infected boats, cages or bait fish into your waters, says Tony Söderlund, fisheries consultant Skellefteå municipality.
