Hardy Matar, who stabbed British author Salman Rushdi, famous for his novel 'The Devil's Poem', has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and assault.

"We formally charged the person responsible for yesterday's attack for attempted second-degree murder and second-degree assault," said Jason Schmidt, the district attorney for Shutterquaw County, New York, in a statement.

Rushdi has been threatened with death by Muslims, claiming that he portrayed the Islamic Prophet Muhammad blasphemously in his 1988 novel The Devil's Poem.
