Kalmar municipality's project with democracy ambassadors starts today.

The ambassadors are seven in number and will be at events around the municipality until the election.

First up is the Kalmar city festival.

- We are carrying out this project so that the citizens of Kalmar will know how to vote.

It is important to preserve our democracy.

We want to make sure that you use your right to vote.

You should know that you can help change society, says Emma Lundin, project manager and administrator at Kalmar Municipality.

Want to increase voter turnout

The aim is to increase voter turnout and spread information about how to vote in the general elections.

- It could be about us informing citizens about the right to vote.

We have a high voter turnout in Kalmar today, but we want an even higher turnout.

We want to make sure that residents in all parts of Kalmar are comfortable and positive about going and voting, she says.

The ambassadors, who have undergone a shorter training, will, among other things, give out flyers and talk to people out in the community.

Focus on accessibility

The project will focus on first-time voters.

The municipality's website also provides information and links to the election authority's website, which offers information in several different languages.

- This is not just for those who have turned 18.

It could be that you are a new arrival or have lived in Sweden for three years but never voted, says Emma Sundin.
