It is the Moderates in Stockholm who propose that all school children in the county's vulnerable areas should be quickly examined for ADHD, which Expressen was the first to report on.

The rapid tests should lead to more children undergoing an investigation and receiving an ADHD diagnosis, the Moderates hope.

- There are significantly fewer children in vulnerable areas compared to other areas who have a diagnosis of ADHD and therefore do not receive the right medication and support at school.

We want to remedy that, says finance regional councilor Iréne Svenonius (M) to SVT.

M hopes to access gang crime

The party sees the proposal as a way to address the problem of gang crime.

They want to decide on the proposal at regional level, but also push the issue nationally.

- With early detection of ADHD, we can implement early measures in schools and care so that children and young people get the right help.

We know that untreated ADHD dramatically increases the risk of ending up in crime, we see that in the correctional service, Iréne Svenonius.

- If you get help as a child, the risk of ending up in alienation and criminal environments is reduced.

S critical: "Out of touch with reality"

The Social Democrats in Region Stockholm criticize the proposal and believe that there is no quick solution to tackle gang crime.

- In Region Stockholm, they close down youth psychiatry and it takes almost a year to get a npf diagnosis.

So the proposal feels rather unrealistic if you look at what the Moderates are doing today, says Ebba Östlin (S), chairman of the municipal board in Botkyrka, to Expressen.

Chief physician doubtful about the proposal

Lena Nylander, senior physician and specialist in general psychiatry at Lund University, is also skeptical.

She believes that it is better to focus on a good and safe school.

- The most important thing you can do for children with ADHD - is to make sure that the school works.

What is good for children with ADHD is good for all children, she tells Expressen.
