This Thursday, August 11, the Latvian Parliament, in a resolution adopted and published on its website, qualifies Russia as a “

State supporting terrorism

” with regard to the situation in Ukraine.

In this text, Latvian MPs equate “

the violence perpetrated by Russia for political purposes against civilians

 ” to terrorism.

An announcement which is - of course - not to Moscow's taste.

After the still persistent tensions with Lithuania and the call of the Ukrainian president to put an end to visas for Russian nationals, the tension continues to rise between the Baltic countries and Russia.

Russia's actions in Ukraine are "

a targeted genocide against the Ukrainian people

", reads the resolution published on the website of the Latvian Parliament.

Latvian MPs, who believe that Russia is a state that supports terrorism, call for greater military, financial, humanitarian and diplomatic support.

Sharp Russian reviews

The resolution was strongly criticized by the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Maria Zakharova, who believes that the text has no substance other than primary xenophobia.

“

It is necessary to consider that these ideologues are nothing but neo-Nazis

,” she explains.

This resolution adds to the tensions with the other Baltic countries, regularly threatened by Moscow, like Lithuania, which had decided to put an end to the transit of goods to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.

kyiv welcomes the resolution

A decision on which the Lithuanian leaders finally returned, but which accentuated the tensions with Moscow.

The resolution adopted by all the Latvian MPs present on Thursday was welcomed by kyiv.

Riga is also calling for the end of the issuance of visas for Russian and Belarusian citizens, just like the Ukrainian president who, on August 9, called on the European Union to take such a decision.
