While firefighters are strongly mobilized to fight the fires, elected officials from the right and left are calling on the government to urgently reintroduce the nearly 5,000 firefighters who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19.

On Europe 1, the vice-president of the firefighters of France, however, believes that this is not a good solution.

This is a subject that can bring together the left and the right.

In the National Assembly, elected officials from the two major political sensibilities question the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin on a possible reintroduction of firefighters suspended because they have not been vaccinated against Covid-19, while numerous fires are ravaging several forests in France.

According to the SDIS, they are 5,000 volunteer firefighters and 140 holders who cannot be mobilized.

And faced with the urgency, this decision remains a misunderstanding for the opposition.

This is the case for the deputy Rassemblement national du Var, Frédéric Boccaletti.

"We are the victim of unprecedented fires on our territory. The firefighters on the ground are exhausted. They have been put to the test for several weeks now", recalls the deputy at the microphone of Europe 1. He continues: "I think that the Minister of the Interior must take his responsibilities and urgently reinstate the suspended firefighters. Faced with flames, the vaccine does not protect", he says, "on the other hand, our firefighters protect us ."

A false good idea for the vice-president of firefighters

This subject was already discussed in July, but the government had decided to maintain the suspension.

A legitimate decision for Norbert Berginiat, vice-president of the firefighters of France.

According to him, reintroducing unvaccinated firefighters would be a false good idea.

"Already we are in collective deficit, if we have an epidemic among our firefighters, it will be a big disaster", he argues with Europe 1.

"Reintroducing non-vaccinated people is taking the risk of flattening our intervention capacity. That's why it can be dangerous", explains Norbert Berginiat.

A difficult dilemma which has not yet been decided by the Minister of the Interior.
