The police were alerted just before nine on Thursday evening that a drunken man was chasing people with a bottle and walking around with a hammer in Fagersta.
A commotion allegedly ensued and the man allegedly threw a bicycle at a man in his 50s and also at the man's car.
The hammer, which the man walked around with, was not used in the assault.
The suspect is being taken into custody and questioning will take place when he has sobered up.
The police have also questioned witnesses on the spot.
