• Amazon company will create 2,000 new jobs in Spain in 2022

The Labor Inspection of Catalonia, which depends on the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat, has proposed a penalty of 3.2 million euros to Amazon Road Transport Spain SL for the illegal assignment of workers.

According to this public body, 17 subcontracted companies, which have been fined a total of 2.6 million euros, gave up 559 employees who worked in lower working conditions than they would have if they had been hired directly by the multinational.

Six fined companies are temporary workers.

The investigation began last February in Barcelona and concludes that at least 559 workers carried out delivery tasks in precarious work situations and conditions, mainly in terms of salary and job instability, in addition to not having legal representation.

Among the 17 subcontracted companies are Randstad, Tipsa or Ara Vinc.

Labor clash on the other side of Silicon Valley: Amazon warehouses, their conditions and their unions

Between 2019 and 2021, the Generalitat has already imposed 22 sanctions on Amazon for non-compliance with labor regulations, half for the illegal transfer of workers.

The fines amounted to 1.1 million euros.

The Labor Inspection emphasizes that it wants to guarantee that all companies comply with current regulations in favor of offering the same conditions towards competitiveness and labor rights.
