Raised as their own daughter by the presidential couple, Yenifer Paredes is accused of influence peddling and offense against the public administration.
According to the prosecution, she would have taken advantage of her proximity to President Pedro Castillo to win a public tender for a company for which she worked and whose owners were arrested on Tuesday.
Construction of sewer networks
Yenifer Paredes, in particular, was filmed offering the construction of sewage networks in Cajamarca, the native province of the head of state.
In July, during a hearing before a congressional commission of inquiry, Yenifer Paredes had however presented herself as a simple employee without real power.
Convinced that Paredes could not have acted without the presidential couple being aware, the prosecution transferred him to the high complexity investigation department of the national police under a ten-day pre-trial detention measure.
Media plan
President Pedro Castillo denounced the existence of a media plan aimed at seizing power in an "
illegal and unconstitutional
" way.
According to him, it is a confabulation between the opposition Congress, which has already tried to impeach him twice, and the justice system which has launched five investigations for corruption against him and his entourage.
