A man was discovered shot dead Wednesday evening on a track in Venzolasca (Haute-Corse), we learned from the Bastia prosecutor.

The emergency services discovered this man in cardiorespiratory arrest at 9:50 p.m., told AFP Arnaud Viornery, the public prosecutor of Bastia who went there.

“The person was visibly dead when the emergency services were called”, added the prosecutor without further details on the identity or the possible judicial past of this man.

The victim is said to be a contractor specializing in the earthworks of the village, in his forties, a source familiar with the matter told AFP.

At 10:40 p.m., a vehicle was found burned in Canale di Verde, 40 km south of Venzolasca, without it being known for the time being whether there is a link between the two events, also indicated the magistrate.

An investigation was opened for intentional homicide by the prosecution, which entrusted it to the research section of the Corsican gendarmerie and the Bastia research brigade.
