Former US President Donald Trump said, after appearing before the Attorney General in New York, that he refused to answer questions about his dealings in the field of real estate, after he accused President Joe Biden of being aware of the FBI raid on his headquarters.

"I refused to answer questions under the rights and privileges granted to every citizen in the US Constitution," Trump said, in a statement posted on his platform, "Truth Social", today, Wednesday.

"When your family, your company, and everyone in your circle becomes the targets of a false and politically motivated campaign of persecution with the support of lawyers, prosecutors and disinformation media, you have no choice," he added.

Trump stressed that he did nothing wrong, and the authorities and the media could not find anything against him.

Trump said the New York attorney general could not be allowed to use the investigation as a "tool to advance her political course."

"I have no choice but to remain silent, because the current administration and a number of investigators lack morals and decency," the former president added.

Trump added - in the statement - that the raid on his residence in the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida represents a continuation of the investigations that were underway regarding Russia, and what he described as the impeachment hoax, and described the raid as a coordinated attack by the radical democratic left, as he put it.

Trump had said that raiding his residence was a "terrible thing," adding that Biden knew everything about the incident, just as he knew everything about his son Hunter's deals, as he put it.

The investigation includes accusations of errors in the valuation of valuable assets such as golf courses and skyscrapers, and misleading lenders and tax authorities.

This comes one day after FBI agents raided Trump's residence in search of secret documents he is accused of keeping after the end of his presidency.

White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre told reporters on Tuesday that Biden was not aware of the raid, and no one in the White House received an alert about it.

She added that Biden believes in the rule of law and the independence of the Department of Justice, and that investigations should be far from political influence.
