The German government is now working on a new Infection Protection Act, given that the current Act will expire at the end of September.

However, for a series of epidemic prevention measures planned by the federal government in the fall and winter this year, not only the federal states did not buy it, but the hospitals also believed that some of the new regulations were "unworkable".

In an interview with the media on the 10th, Gerhard Gass, chairman of the German Hospital Association, called for the improvement of the new law, expressing his support for the continued implementation of the mask order indoors, but he did not hope that vaccinators could be exempted: "Because this is completely unrealistic and contrary to Infection protection goals.” At the same time, he believes that the provisions of the federal government’s plan for hospitals will not be implemented.

According to the current version of the new rules, in the future medical staff and visitors will need to have a valid test certificate or proof of having received a third dose of the vaccine within three months to enter the hospital, and they must also wear masks.

At present, there are still great differences between the federal states on the specific implementation of the mask order.

Saxony-Anhalt Health Minister Green Bennet demanded national standards; Bavarian Health Minister Holleček said the new law lacked a practical framework, such as allowing newly vaccinated persons to be an exception to the epidemic prevention measures. It seems that the uncontrollable factors will increase.

The draft "Infection Protection Act" released by Federal Health Minister Lauterbach a few days ago stipulates that masks must be worn on planes, long-distance trains and medical facilities, and further regulations are determined by each federal state.

Lauterbach said on the evening of the 9th that it was unreasonable and medically meaningless to require people to be vaccinated every three months after concluding consultations between the federal government and state health ministers.

According to him, exceptions should not be made prematurely for newly vaccinated or recovered people, as this will only reduce people's willingness to get a fourth dose.

Lauterbach stressed that wearing masks indoors will become the norm.
